COVID-19 infections have increased by 29,000 in the Philippines.
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines' Department of Health has identified 28,471 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total number of current cases to 284,458.
The count fell below 30,000 for the first time in a week. Every Tuesday, the number of cases is usually low due to fewer tests performed over the weekend.
At 3,270,758, active cases accounted for 8.7% of the country's overall caseload.
The death toll rose to 52,962 as 34 additional patients died, bringing the total number of survivors to 2,933,338.
According to the Department of Health, 97 percent of the new cases occurred between January 5 and January 18.
Metro Manila (36 percent), Calabarzon (24 percent), and Central Luzon had the most cases in the last two weeks (11 percent ).
